“Although we read with our minds, the seat of artistic delight is between the shoulder blades. That little shiver behind is quite certainly the highest form of emotion that humanity has attained when evolving pure art and pure science.”
— Vladimir Nabokov
Where are all my bookworms? Perhaps behind a book at the moment. Well, nevertheless, this one’s for you.
If you don’t have an account for Goodreads, then what are you waiting for! It has been the biggest motivator for me over the past year. I enjoy reading, but sometimes life and its endless list of things to do catches up with me. I forget to slow down and do the things I enjoy. Goodreads allows you to make a reading goal for the year. This will both keep you on top of doing something you love while at the same time making you feel like you accomplished something at the end of the year.
This year I decided to set a goal of reading 30 books. And to make it a little more interesting, I made a list of some books I can check off. This year’s reading challenge:
- Author you’ve never heard of
- A book written in a female point of view
- A book written in a male point of view
- A book with over 600 pages
- Read a classic
- A book set in your country
- Read a book with an unappealing cover
- A self-help book
- A book about World War II
- Read a book right after buying it
- A book about your hobby/interest
- An autobiography
- A book that was made into a movie
- A funny book
- A book you wouldn’t normally choose
- Read a banned book
- A book published this year
- A book that intimidates you
- A book you should have read in school
- A book you choose by its cover
- A crime novel
- A book recommended by your oldest family member
- A book based on a true story
- A book set somewhere you’ve always wanted to visit
- A book set in the future
- A book by your favorite author
- The first book in a series
- A book that is also a stage play or musical
- A book mentioned in another book
- A book that was being read by a stranger in a public place
Add me as a friend on Goodreads (@ Bonita Santillan), so that we can keep up with each other’s progress throughout the year. Happy reading! xx
