This tag is a trend that has been going around on YouTube for some years now. The last time I did this tag was in 2022. It’s a fun way to review what books you’ve read in the year so far and what you look forward to reading throughout the rest of the year and in the future.
Tag Questions:
- Best book you’ve read so far in 2024
Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid. This was the first book I read this year and it has also been only 5-star book so far.
- Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2024
The Mystery Guest (Molly the Maid series) by Nita Prose. This was a light-hearted mystery that was easy to read but with just enough mystery to keep you wanting to keep reading. I hope this continues as a series!
- New release you haven’t read yet but want to
The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley. I’ve just started this book. I read the sample on my Kindle and was intrigued. Such a different concept. I’ve heard so many good reviews so I’m hoping it becomes one of my favorites this year.
- Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
The Grandest Game by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I thought this would be a continuation of The Inheritance Games series but turns out it’s a completely different series based on the same characters and storyline, according to Goodreads. I’m curious to see how the series plays out.
- Biggest disappointment
Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. I do not recommend this book. It was a poor execution of sci-fi fantasy. Too much emphasis on the romance aspect and not enough on the fantasy world. If you want a romance book then this may be more up your alley but don’t expect a nerdy fantasy novel.
- Biggest surprise
Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I’ve read Malibu Rising by Reid and really enjoyed her writing style and her ability to tell a good story. When Carrie Soto is Back came out I wasn’t too interested in the story because I’m not into tennis nor do I know much about the sport. But I kept hearing that you don’t have to know much about tennis to enjoy the story. So I kept this in the back of my mind until I found a copy of the book at a thrift store for $1 and decided to give it a try. I was so surprised I loved it so much, I couldn’t put it down. It’s the only book I’ve given 5 stars this year.
- Favorite new author (debut or new to you)
Jenny Jackson. I really enjoyed Jackson’s writing style in Pineapple Street and look forward to her future work.
- Newest favorite character
Emily Wilde. She’s living the dream; I want to be her.
- Book that made you cry
Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Well, almost. My husband decided to speak to me while I was obviously engrossed in this book with only a few pages left and killed the vibe.
- Book that made you happy
Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett. I read this at a time when I was not feeling my best mentally .This book was my escape so I really treasure it.
- Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year
