My 5-Star Reads From 2022

I would have liked to have read more books this year. But this year was filled with lots of changes in my personal life, so reading was low on the priority list. But these are some of the books I rated 5 stars on Goodreads. If you’re not familiar with Goodreads, it’s an app where you can track what you’re reading and also rate and review books. The rating scale is from 1 to 5 stars, no half stars. So while I might’ve given some of these books 4.5 stars, I decided to round up. So here’s my list:

How the 4x4x4 method got me back into journaling regularly

If you’re reading this, you probably have some interest in journaling. Maybe you tried it at one point but then found it hard to stick to a routine, or maybe you’re consistently trying to keep a journaling routine but oftentimes lose the motivation to keep it up. It’s knowing that journaling is good for you but once you get out of the habit, you have trouble getting back into it. Sounds a bit like exercise. Haven’t done that in a while, but that’s not what we’re talking about right now.

Guide to Cairns: Cozy Cafés

There’s something about going to a café just to get out of the house and work on a few things on your laptop or read a book or just have a casual catch-up over a cup of coffee with a friend. But I find that there are so many cafes in Cairns that are packed with groups of people having brunch — loud talking, a lineup at the front with people waiting to be seated, and feeling that as soon as you finish your meal the waitress is just waiting for you to leave so that the next people can be seated. Rush rush rush. There’s certainly a time and a place for that, but when you’re in a new area, it’s difficult to know what the ~vibe~ of the cafe down the street is going to be like. There’s nothing more awkward than sitting down, ordering only a cup of coffee when the waitress just gave you an extensive brunch menu, and then feeling like you’re overstaying your welcome. So to save you the embarrassment and awkward eye contact with the staff, here’s a brief list of a few cafés I’ve visited where I would feel comfortable only ordering a single cup of coffee and staying for a while.
