I’ve been slacking a bit on the blog posts. I think we can all agree that life catches up with us sometimes and we have to push other things aside, sadly.
Recently the weather has been cooling up, which is always the biggest news you’ll get in a small town around this time of year. So I’ve been embracing it and using those days to snuggle up by the fireplace with a book in one hand, usually a mystery book on the colder, rainy days, and a coffee in the other.
Also, one of my guilty pleasures is looking up “pinspiration” bookish pictures like these:
Have you heard of Agatha Christie? You’ve heard of her, surely — one of the best mystery authors of all time. Well, I’ve finally given her the time of day and I am so hooked on her books! Can’t believe I hadn’t read them yet. Recently I read “A Murder is Announced,” a well-known book of hers featuring Miss Marple. I’m still waiting around to read “Murder On the Orient Express” that way I can watch the movie guiltlessly.
A personal goal I’ve set for myself is to read more. I read often, but not as often as I’d like. I learn so much from reading whether it be new words, cultural facts or even what an everyday life is for someone who lives on the other side of the world. This goal includes cutting back on social media time to actually sit down (or preferably, lie down) and read. It’s calming for the mind and a good way to wind down after a long day. On weeks like this last one are when I realize I need to schedule out time to collect my thoughts and reorganize myself. My brain was not structured for stress.
When I was in college, cleaning up my apartment and rearranging my furniture was a great way to relieve some stress. So I’ve been gravitating towards inspiration for home decor even though I have nothing to redecorate.
Music is another great remedy. Not everyone is an instrumental music fan but I quite enjoy it. I’ve recently been inspired by a pianist named Novel. Here are some of my favorite songs by him:
- Eurythmie
- Songe (Debut)
- La Clairiere *my personal favorite*
- Rosée
Woke up this morning and was in the mood for some chocolate chip pancakes (gluten-free, of course). So I made them because that’s what Sundays are for. Hopefully, this week will be a bit easier before my days start slowing down again. Maybe tomorrow morning I’ll wake up to another sunrise like this one from this past week.
My life was changed the day I finally decided to read a book by Agatha Christie! She is a genius. I can’t wait to see Murder on The Orient Express!
