November has come and gone.
Actually, all of 2017 has come and gone — it’s already December! With that being said, I have come up with a list of items and products I have been enjoying recently, and I’d like to share them with you in the hopes of you appreciating them just as much as I do. I’ve included a mix of beauty and lifestyle items. Enjoy!
SMACKbeauty Beauty Sleep Charcoal Detoxifying Cream. A water-based night cream that I’ve been using for over a month already, and I don’t want it run out. This may not only apply to me, but I NEED to apply moisturizer within a minute after washing my face or else I feel like the life in my skin is being sucked out. This moisturizer is extremely moisturizing and soaks into my skin in a matter of seconds. Also, the charcoal in this night cream is definitely doing its job. I wake up every morning feeling like I wore a face mask the night before. I have not broken out nearly as much since using this moisturizer. Just saying.
LUSH Sunny Day. Winter means dry weather. And for me, that means static-y hair and looking like Medusa after slipping off my sweater. Long hair does not look good floating around my head, and I knew I couldn’t be the only one in the entire world with this problem. LUSH always comes through, they have everything for every beauty need out there. I just spray their Sunny Day product in my hair after a shower and after I style my hair and reapply it throughout the day as needed and I’m good to go. It even scents my hair with a lovely honey and violet fragrance. Bonus.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE
Dandelion tea. There are times when I want black or green tea before bed but don’t want the caffeine to keep me from sleeping. I’ve found that dandelion tea is a satisfying alternative. Not only is it tasty especially with a bit of milk, but it strengthens the immune system, which is good with the flu going around right now, and it eases digestive problems — good for those with bloating problems and food intolerances.
French press. Coffee is good. Coffee is great. And the stronger, the better. I love my french press. It may not be one of those fancy coffee machines, but it does the trick. A french press allows the flavor in the ground coffee to really soak and penetrate, allowing the flavor to make it all the way into your coffee cup instead of staying behind in the coffee brewer. It may take a bit more effort to make every morning, but it’s definitely worth it. And they’re not very expensive, either.
BOOKS AND MUSIC
Sherlock Holmes — “A Study in Scarlet.” Breaking News: There was about a week’s worth of cloudy/rainy days in Texas this month. Yeah, I know. Every time it gets rainy out, I’m instantly in the mood to watch Sherlock (the TV series). I don’t have Netflix at the moment, so I decided it was time to hit the books. I have a whole collection of Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes short stories and novels. I absolutely love them! Granted, I’ve only read one so far. My appreciation for the TV show and the movies is so much greater than it was before. They did an amazing job at portraying the characters. This is a must-read!
Jeannette Walls — “The Glass Castle” and “Half Broke Horses.” “The Glass Castle” had been sitting on my shelf for over a year. Little did I know just how good it would be! I love memoirs and expected this one to be more or less the typical memoir. But it was more than that. It was a life brought to life — almost fictional. Of course, I had to watch the movie, which is what I saw this month. I had finished the book in October. About a week after watching the movie, a friend reccommended I read “Half Broke Horses.” I was delighted when he brought the book to me! He had no idea I was going through a Jeannette Walls phase. So we traded books. “Half Broke Horses” was no disappointment and just as good as “The Glass Castle.”
Taylor Swift — Reputation. A-ma-zing! Taylor is always full of surprises. In order to appreciate this album, you have to go in listening to it with an open mind. When I listened to the previews on iTunes, I was a bit disappointed. It wasn’t until I was gifted an iTunes card and purchased the album when I could hear every bit of Taylor’s talent in the album, just in a different approach. Recently, I’ve been loving “Dancing With Our Hands Tied,” it has a catchy beat and the lyrics are geinus. It’s now available on streaming services if you’re a bit hesitant to buy the entire album. However, never doubt Taylor.
Del Rio Grande Magazine. Last but certainly not least, the local Del Rio lifestyle magazine. It’s been about a year and half since it launched, and it has come a long way! The team there is amazine and always coming up with new ideas and approaches to every monthly issue. I have been so grateful that my blog and recipes are being included in the magazine. It’s one of those magazines you can pick up and find something that catches your eye whether it be a DIY, a life story, or an educational piece about something you can’t find anywhere else but in Del Rio. Every month carries its own theme throughout the magazine. Who knew Del Rio had so much to offer!
Let me know if these are some of your favorites as well and share your opinions with me. If you have a Goodreads account, follow me. I would love to see what you’re reading this month! You can find my Goodreads account and updates on the right side bar of every blog page. Have a good December!
